More Navigator Outline Customizing

There are many more options in TexNotes Pro to change the look and feel of Outline.

You can change the Outline background color, display lines, column headers and so on. Just explore the Outline right-click menu, and experiment with the various selections. It's usual to have TexNotes Pro in Advanced mode when you do this.

Navigator Tabs

You can add or remove any of the Navigator tabs (except the Outline). You can also hide the entire tab bar.

To display or hide the entire Navigator tab bar, click View on the main menu, and then click Layout View Options.

Check Show Navigator Tabs to display them, or uncheck to hide them.

To hide individual Navigator tabs (other than the Outline tab), click the red X button on the right side of the tab's header. Here's the Search tab, showing the Search header line just below the tab:

Notice that the Title bar of the selected tab displays a standard red Close button. Just click it to suppress display of the selected tab. Alternatively, you can drag a tab out of the Navigator onto the desktop and then click its Title bar Close button.

To display hidden Navigator tabs, just click the little black triangle at the top right corner of the Navigator header (above the row of tabs). This drops-down a list of all available tabs, and whichever one you click is added back to the row of tabs. Or, you can select the tab by name in the View menu.

Show/Hide All Navigator Tabs and Panel Headers

There is an option to show/hide all the Navigator tabs. There is also an option to show/hide the headers for various panels.

When both options are on, the Navigator looks something like this:

If either of these options is turned off, then none of the operations described above will work.
When both options are off, the Navigator looks something like this (compare to illustration above):

In this case, to show the Navigator tabs and/or the panel headers:

    1. Click View on the main menu.
    2. Click Layout View Options.
    3. Click Show Docked Panel Headers (if it is not checked).
    4. Click View on the main menu again.
    5. Click Layout View Options again.
    6. Click Show Navigator Tabs (if it is not checked).

Some Other Options

There is a lot more to customize in the Navigator, including:

Triangles

Squares

Diamonds

Dots

  • Show horizontal (row) or vertical (column) lines in Outline.

  • Show tree indenting as dotted lines.

This illustration show both these options turned off.

Numbering ON

Numbering OFF

  • Show dynamic item numbers for every item.

These numbers refer to the relative row number of items at each level of the tree.

The numbers remain in position and don't move with the items. In other words, they are assigned to the position, not the Note.

Note that the Outline column contents are displayed in full in each Note's header area. The header area is at the top of the Note editing canvas (the window to the right of the Navigator). The Note header can be completely hidden or un-hidden by clicking View in the main menu, and then clicking Layout View Options, and selecting Show Document Header.

Click the blue-green chevron button to show/hide the header fields.

Change Character Case

You can use Change Character Case in the Navigator menu to quickly change the text case of any Outline item. You can choose between  Uppercase, lowercase and Proper Case.

Uppercase changes the string "TexNotes Pro" to TEXNOTES PRO.

lowercase changes the string "TexNotes Pro" to texnotes pro.

Proper Case changes the string "TexNotes Pro" to Texnotes Pro.
